The Tolly team had a First Round Match Away at West Suffolk Golf Centre. For those that don't know it’s near Mildenhall in a village called Beck Row. A flat layout with a short yardage of 5487 yards, distance was not the priority. After a washed out practice round the team were hoping for more pleasant weather on the day. Blustery but bright and sunny, their wishes had come true.

The team consisted of a couple of first timers and the rest all had Tolly experience so the blend was good. We amassed nearly 500 years of life experience within the team, what could possibly go wrong?!

The first pair was the strong club pairing of "Lamby" Dennis Lamb & Graham Baldwin. In a match that produced a high standard of golf, the Cretingham Pair were just about hanging on. After a number of pars and three birdies from the West Suffolk duo Lamby and Baldwin finished 5 down. This was no disgrace as the pair they faced shot +6 gross. This did not deter our first timers and they went on to battle the same pair in the afternoon winning their match and finishing +1 for the afternoon.

West Suffolk chose to switch the remaining three pairs for the afternoon, showing a little concern one might think?!

The second pair of Gary Taylor and Kevin Calver played some good golf to win 3 up in the morning at a canter but perhaps lost their way in their second match to finish A/S. A solid performance however the Captain wanted more from his attacking pair!

The third pair of Mel Harradine and Alan Oldfield played some good golf in the morning to be A/S heading up the 18th however some suspect course management cost them the last hole of the morning to finish 1 down. After the taste of defeat over lunch the momentum appeared as though it was against them. A spot of tiredness led to some errand shots finishing 4 down for the afternoon.

Finally the silent assassins consisting of Paul Robinson and Steve Seal. This pair went about their business focused in the morning finishing 1 up. The afternoon is always tough to stay motivated when the feeling of the rest of the team is negative however the assassins only just lost out finishing 2 down for the afternoon.

Thanks to the Captain on the day Doug King and to the team for all of their effort.

Well done to West Suffolk G.C, Good Luck in the next round.
