Ladies flourish at Flempton!

The successful Stearn squad achieved another fine win to reach the semi-final round of this 36 hole foursomes competition for the first time in the club’s history and will next play Aldeburgh at Halesworth on Monday 1st September.

The two previous wins this summer have been against strong opposition but we did have home advantage: the quarter final though was away against Flempton. All three of our pairs were up against players with much lower handicaps overall, once again three members of our team were playing off 20 on the day, below their actual handicaps. The morning rounds were all very closely fought and at lunch the match was all square with our first pair level, the second only 2 down and the third 2 up. It could have gone either way in the afternoon but Carol and Margaret set off strongly and came in winners on the 31st hole. For Flempton, their second pair played immaculately and could not be beaten so all depended on the final game. Margaret and Kim started the afternoon by winning 3 holes straight off and by the turn they were 6 up. The Flempton ladies (as we suspected they would) found a second wind and managed to retrieve some lost ground but when Kim hit a wonderful second shot onto the green finishing only feet from the pin at the 35th, it was all over, much to the delight of us all.

It was great to see so many supporters: thank you all and hope to see you at Halesworth for the semi-final!
